Adventure Therapy
Recovery doesn’t just happen in a a group room, it happens in real life.
At House of Hope, Adventure Therapy is one of the ways we help men grow, build confidence, and rediscover joy in recovery.
Adventure Therapy combines hands-on activities with real-life skill building. That might look like hiking, team challenges, or problem-solving activities, but it’s about much more than just being outdoors.
As clients take part in these experiences, they practice skills they’ll need in recovery, like:
- Communicating with others
- Building trust
- Managing stress and emotions
- Working through challenges without giving up
- Supporting and relying on a team
Instead of only talking about these skills, clients actually use them in the moment. That’s where real growth happens.
After each activity, clients reflect on what they experienced and how it connects to their life and recovery. This helps turn those moments into lasting change.
House of Hope’s Outpatient Program provides flexible, person-centered treatment for individuals seeking help with substance use disorder, mental health challenges, or both.
Built for Everyone
Adventure Therapy is designed so anyone can participate. We follow a “challenge by choice” approach, meaning each person decides how much they want to push themselves. Whether someone takes the lead or supports the group from the sidelines, everyone is involved and gains something from the experience.
*Adventure Therapy is not a standalone service. It is part of our residential treatment program and is only available to clients actively in one of House of Hopes programs.
